She was looking at the new houses and I at the period properties, as both of us stared at different parts of the same paper. A comprise had to be reached somewhere, otherwise the day could finish as a total waste of time.
Perhaps there was a third route that we could explore one that would enable us to make the move temporarily and not permanently. The plan was to rent somewhere that would take us away for the large city, giving us the opportunity to search at our leisure for a new place. We both agreed that the idea could have some mileage, so we concentrated our efforts within the section over the page called Property to let West Sussex. The area that it covered was substantial, and a great deal larger than I had imagined. Because i still work in the city, I need to find somewhere close to a railway line.
We could consider a flat provided it had the space we needed, as parking space was not a priority. The newspaper showed that the town had a poor section on flats to rent in Sussex, which surprised me. I had always imagined because of the location near the seaside and the tradition, there would be no shortage of potential flats. I might be checking online for all the possiblities, or even searching the adverts on sites like Gumtree.
It was a sensible idea, but I wasn’t about to abandon my dream Victorian terraced house quite so soon. House prices in Wothing were still quite reasonable compare with those in Brighton and Hove, which had gone mad over the previous ten years. I would continue the search later, as made some mental notes of the phone number for property in West Sussex. I decided that I would look at these again later when the day was done and we had time to reflect on our experiences.
