The Beatles Remastered Stereo CD Set was released in September of 2009 it instantly became the ultimate standard for The Beatles catalog. These remastered stereo versions sound far superior to the old CDs from the late 1980s. When when I compare these new remasters to the old compact discs it’s like the old CDs are under a pile of wet towels while the new CDs sound crystal clear so that all of the vocals, guitar parts, bass guitar parts, and drums push through the mix like never before.
The Beatles Remastered Stereo CD Set isn’t the only box set by The Beatles that came out in September of ‘09 but it has been the biggest seller since it can be enjoyed by the biggest set of fans. The Beatles in Mono Box Set is amazing too but it appeals more to Beatles purists who want to listen to the original mono mixes (because that’s how the albums were “meant to be heard”) than to an Beatles fan. Although there are definitely songs that sound better in mono than in stereo (particularly quite a few of the pre Peper songs) overall I think the stereo box set does sound the best.
The wonderful thing about The Beatles Remastered Stereo CD Set is that it allows you to acquire The Beatles complete 1962-70 discography with just one order and when one considers the extremely high quality of most of their CDs, it makes the most sense to buy them all at one time instead of buying some and then getting more later.
Along with the great songs included in this box set there are also some awesome visual bits, most obviously the DVD with 13 mini documentaries on it (one for each studio album.) Along with the DVD there are extended liner notes for every album (there is some good information in these notes, especially for fans who are new to the group) and some great unpublished photos.
I’m such a huge Beatles fan that I have got (or am planning on ordering) The Beatles Stereo Set, The Beatles Mono Set, The Beatles USB, and The Beatles Rock Band Game. But if I had to choose just one of these items, it would be the complete stereo box set because it’s the best way to hear their music and of course, it’s the influential albums that made them the most legendary band of all time.
